Unilever PLC is a worldwide supplier of consumer goods in foods, household care and personal product categories. Since January 2001, the Company's operations have been organized into two global divisions, Foods and Home & Personal Care. This structure allows for improved focus on its division's activities at both the regional and global levels. These global divisions' operations are organized into businesses on a regional basis, with the exception of Diversey Lever and Prestige within Home & Personal Care, and the global businesses of Ice Cream and Frozen Foods and Food service within the Foods Division.

 
The Problem

The existing IT systems allowed for capture and analyses of spend only at a very top level. Hence detailed and actual spend areas went unnoticed largely. Unilever was looking for a software solution that could classify transaction data with higher accuracy and through put. It was also looking for a solution with Real time classification capability and integration with Ariba Buyer.
